(Mississippi)- The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports four people died on the state’s highways during the New Year’s holiday weekend. The travel period began Saturday at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight Sunday. All four traffic fatalities happened in south Mississippi, one in Jasper County and three in a traffic accidents in Jefferson Davis County. Over 1,200 citations were written during the holiday travel period and 44 people were arrested for driving under the influence. Wet weather played a role in several accidents during the holiday weekend.
