Former Benoit school administrators ordered to repay misused funds

Four former administrators in Benoit have been told to re-pay grant funds. The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has demanded the re-payment of more than 100-thousand dollars from former administrators who allegedly received unauthorized salaries from grants that had been given to the school district in 2003 to 2006. The school district and the state Department of Education were allegedly unaware that the grants were being used for that purpose. The state auditor has demanded repayment within 30 days from former Superintendent Suzanne Hawley, former Assistant Superintendent Sherry Shepard, former business manager Barbara Peeples and former maintenance manager Ephen Melton.
