First Pediatric Flu Death in State Since 2018

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Mississippi Department of Health has reported the state’s first pediatric flu death since 2018. It was a child from central Mississippi that tested negative for COVID-19. State health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says MSDH has been focused on coronavirus but annual flu vaccines are important for anyone 6 months or older. MDSH has also reported the first case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children; that child from central Mississippi tested positive for COVID-19 and has been discharged from the hospital and more cases of MIS-C are under investigation.
