Greenville Police are investigating the city’s first homicide case of 2014. They identified the victim as 29-year-old Deonte Powell, who bled to death after he was shot in the arm. He was found at 2am lying outside a house on Maple Street. Police have arrested 51-year-old Alonzo Dukes, who is believed to be the victim’s roommate and who reportedly told investigators that the gun went off after Powell came home intoxicated. The shooting ended a two and half month lull in homicides in Greenville.
