Fireworks safety tips for the Delta

Chicot Memorial

Delta-area residents are urged to use safety when using firecrackers and the like this Fourth of July. Safety officials have a million horror stories about children and grownups suffering severe injury when fireworks go wrong, and always suggest people opt instead to enjoy a professional display. Some tremendous shows are planned for the holiday weekend. For those coordinating private, backyard celebrations, local officials advise you to be sure to follow all laws and precautions. Check with your local police or fire department if you’re not sure. Experts say even sparklers burn at a very high temperature and barefooted children are treated each year for burns, so be sure to keep a container of water nearby for the spent rods.
