Fire Destroys Downtown Greenville Business

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A late Wednesday afternoon blaze destroyed a long time Greenville business. The fire broke out at the “Looking Good” clothing store, a fixture in downtown Greenville since 1983. Images from the Delta Radio towercam in downtown Greenville show smoke erupting over Washington Avenue around 5:50 PM. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the building “fully engulfed” in flames. Other area fire departments, including teams from as far away as Cleveland, at one point, were called in to help battle the blaze as flames could be seen for blocks away shooting through the roof of the two story building. Firefighters describe the building as a “total loss.” Early reports indicated the one person was injured in the fire. Bystanders brought bottled water to emergency responders to keep them cool and hydrated as the fire occurred during a heat advisory with heat index temperatures in the triple digits.
