Fatal Accident In Pace Kills Toddlers, Adult

PACE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A two-vehicle accident Wednesday night outside of Cleveland near Pace killed two toddlers and one adult. The accident is still under investigation, and conflicting information has been received. But early reports to Delta Daily News by the Mississippi Highway Patrol say the accident occurred around 5:45 PM on Mississippi Highway 8 at 4th Street in Pace. MHP said that Troopers arriving on the scene believed that a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 71-year-old James Robinson of Pace was attempting to make a left turn onto 4th street when he was hit by an eastbound 2003 Ford Mustang driven by 31-year-old Lasheba Mathews of Rosedale. MHP said that Mathews, along with two passengers, Karleasha Miller and Lavette Wade, all sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Memphis. Mathews had four other occupants in the vehicle, two of which were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant was airlifted to Jackson with serious injuries, while a fourth was taken to Bolivar Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries. Authorities say the names of the occupants will not be released due to their ages.
