Farmers are fighting back against copper thefts. Drew Mitchell is with Arkansas-based AgSecure, which makes Bin Snitch, which sends alerts about copper thefts. The Attorneys General in a number of states, including Mississippi, are debating new regulations that would require scrap yards to verify that any copper they’re purchasing came from a legitimate source. Right now, officials say it’s all too easy for individuals looking to make a quick buck to strip copper from farms to resell to scrap yards that don’t question where it came from.
