Family Of Woman Killed in Crash Demands Answers

SARDIS, MS (Ben Caxton) — The family of a woman killed in a crash with a Sardis police officer is demanding answers. The family of 32-year-old Ericka Hughes wants to know why the officer was chasing someone on a motorcycle on State Road 315, about a half mile west of I-55 when he slammed into her car Monday night. Sardis Police Chief Steve McLarty told WMC-TV that the officer who hit Hughes head-on is 33-year-old Alex Aikens. Aikens underwent surgery yesterday. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
