Falling Bullet Injures Woman At Greenville Fireworks

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A woman was injured by a bullet at an Independence Day celebration in Greenville last night. Police are investigating the incident which occurred around 9:30, just as the fireworks display was starting along Lake Ferguson at Schelben Park. The woman was taken to the hospital, and the projectile which appears to be a bullet was removed. So far police have found no evidence of any gunfire having occurred at the Greenville Celebrates America event and speculate the injury may have been caused by someone firing a weapon into the air some distance away, with the expended, falling bullet striking the victim and causing her injury. Greenville Police are continuing to investigate.
