Entergy Customers To Get The Bill For New Meters

Chicot Memorial

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Mississippi Public Service Commission has voted to allow the state’s largest private electric utility to install automated meters beginning in 2019. New Orleans-based Entergy Corporation plans to install more than 450,000 automated meters by 2021. Residential customers will have to pay an extra $3.25 per month for the meters, although the utility says savings generated by the meters will more than make up the difference. Customers in other states have objected to the meters, so Entergy will let customers opt out although they will have to pay more to subsidize human meter readers.
