Deputy Involved in Shootout

(Canton, MS) — A Madison County deputy exchanged gunfire with a suspect in Canton Thursday. It began around 11:35 a.m. with a traffic stop. After the deputy stopped a vehicle on Center Street for failure to use a turn signal, 30-year-old Anthony White jumped out and allegedly fired at least three shots at the officer from a .40-caliber semi-automatic weapon. No one was injured but a foot chase followed the shootout. White made it five blocks before the deputy stopped him using a stun gun. White has an extensive criminal history and is on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
