Deaton Back To Face Charges In Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI (Ben Caxton) — A man convicted in Kansas on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery has returned to Mississippi. Alex Deaton will go on trial this summer for murder, drive-by shooting, and automobile theft indictments. Deaton is accused of strangling his girlfriend, stealing her SUV, and shooting a jogger as well as killing a woman near Philadelphia, Mississippi last year. Police say Deaton then carjacked a New Mexico couple, fled to Kansas, shot a store clerk and stole the clerk’s car. Deaton was sentenced to 13 years in a Kansas prison after pleading guilty in July to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. He faces a possible life sentence if convicted in Mississippi.
