Curtain Coming Down On Shelter In Old Theater

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — An old Greenville Theater converted recently into a men’s shelter is going to have to close according to city officials. The city council voted this week to order the building be vacated within two weeks for safety reasons. The Grace Tabernacle Covenant Church converted the old cinema, located on Highway 82 East in Greenville, into a shelter earlier this year. It now houses several dozen homeless men. According to Mayor Errick Simmons, the structure is not in compliance with the city ordinance codes but says the city is working on a solution to house the occupants who will be displaced by the closure.
