Crews Working To Get To Damaged Vicksburg Pipe

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — 30,000 Vicksburg residents remain without water today as the only pipe connecting the city’s water treatment plant with residents remains broken and underwater. Repair crews are working around the clock, hauling dirt and building a temporary levee around the pipe which currently lays under twelve feet of floodwater from the Mississippi River. When completed crews will pump out the water, and dig up the 36-inch diameter pipe which is buried about five feet underground to attempt to restore service. In the meantime, the entire city is under a boil water notice. Several Mississippi cities, including Greenville, have begun water drives to collect bottled water to ship to Vicksburg residents.
