Conjugal visits for all Mississippi prisoners end on January 31st under a policy change announced by the Corrections Department

Mississippi was one of a small number of states that still allow conjugal visits, and it was only for married, minimum security inmates. Supporters of the previous policy said it helped keep families together, while opponents were concerned about babies being conceived in bad circumstances. The Corrections Department says it is a policy change for which no law is necessary, but state representative Tommy Taylor of Boyle says the Corrections Committee he chairs will study the issue.
