Congress Looking at School Nutrition

(Little Rock, AR)– Congress is debating two bill that would renew childhood nutrition programs. The Community Eligibility Provision permits school systems to provide free meals for all students in schools with high levels of poverty. The HB 5003 “Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act of 2016” would make qualifying harder because of it’s strict set of rules. Advocate Jessie Hewins claims that means nation wide more then 7,000 schools serving 3.4 million students would have to reapply for the program and that would have a major impact on Arkansas.
