Coahoma Tourism Board Spends $20,000 on Festivals

COAHOMA COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Coahoma County tourism board met yesterday and approved grants of more than $20,000 for three local festivals. The $15,000 awarded to April’s Juke Joint Festival doubles last year’s grant amount; June’s Birthplace of American Music Festival will receive $2000, up from $1500 last year and October’s Deep Blues Festival will receive $3500, up from $2000 in 2019. The board also approved joining the city of Clarksdale, the Chamber of Commerce and CPU in paying $1580 to bring two Supertalk Mississippi programs to Clarksdale during the Juke Joint Festival and over $13,000 in festival sponsorships and travel for executive director Bubba O’Keefe to New Orleans, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon.
