Coahoma County Election Lawsuit Tossed

COAHOMA COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A lawsuit challenging a race in the August Democratic primary election has been thrown out. Special judge Barry Ford ruled this week that Mario Magsby filed his paperwork too late and dismissed the case, confirming the re-election of Coahoma County Sheriff Charles Jones. Jones narrowly defeated challengers Magsby and Stacy Lester on August 6th and avoided a runoff election by just 44 votes. Magsby’s action sought either a runoff with Jones or a new election with all three candidates.
