Cleveland residents lose thousands in scam

Chicot Memorial

The Cleveland Police Department is warning residents about a scam which has already claimed several victims who lost thousands of dollars. The scammer sends a letter with a check for more than 4-thousand dollars that is supposedly from the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes but asks for a fee of 3-thousand dollars. The victim sends the 3-thousand dollars by Western Union and then the check for more than 4-thousand dollars bounces. Police say the case serves as a warning that there are no legitimate foreign lotteries that require you to pay a fee to collect any winnings.
