SHELBY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Merigold man died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a car on US Highway 61 at Shelby. 45-year-old Clifford “Todd” Arbuckle was pronounced dead on the scene when Mississippi Highway Patrol and paramedics arrived. MHP spokesperson Ronnie Shive said the incident is being called a pedestrian accident. Arbuckle was hit while walking south in the northbound lane of the highway after a single vehicle accident around 12:45 AM in which he rolled his pickup truck. He was a little over 100 yards away when he was struck by a 2002 Buick driven by 49-year-old Tina Domingue of Coldwater. Police said Domingue then stopped in the middle shoulder of the northbound lane and called 911. She was transported to Bolivar Medical Center and released with no apparent injuries. Shive said no charges would be brought against Domingue as Arbuckle was walking down the middle of a dark stretch of highway in dark clothing. Arbuckle, the owner of A & A Muffler in Cleveland, would have been celebrating his birthday yesterday.
