Clarksdale Juke Joint Festival A Success

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — During yesterday’s meeting of the Clarksdale city board, which lasted less than 25 minutes, it was generally acknowledged that the weekend’s Juke Joint Festival was well attended and ran smoothly. Police chief Whit Read noted that officers made fewer arrests and wrote fewer citations than for a usual weekend and visitors from 28 states and 13 countries stopped by the city’s booth on Saturday. Mayor Bill Luckett was out of town so Commissioner Ken Murphey chaired the meeting and said the city was preparing to have the swimming pool open this year, perhaps even earlier than usual.
