Clarksdale Getting Wiggly Wit It

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A year after Kroger left the market, Clarksdale is getting a new grocery store. At yesterday’s city board meeting the mayor and commissioners announced that Piggly Wiggly plans to build a new store with fuel pumps near the US49-61 interchange. Piggly Wiggly Alabama spokesman Tim Shappen said the new store won’t be a “cookie cutter concept” but will be a “cultural experience” designed specifically for Clarksdale and anticipates a ribbon cutting in about a year. Calling is a “safety issue”, city commissioners also approved the installation of a three-way stop sign at the intersection of Sixth Street and Sunflower Avenue and the purchase of two new police patrol vehicles, while Chief Sandra Williams praised the work of Timothy Douglas, recently hired as the city’s cold case detective, for his efforts to solve the 2015 murder of Myrtle Messenger.
