Clarksdale coach draws the minimum prison sentence

Chicot Memorial

A former Clarksdale softball coach has been sentenced for child exploitation and lustful touching. The 12-year sentence for 61-year-old Rick Roberson was the minimum allowed by law. The former coach is in poor health and previously battled throat cancer. One victim told the court that Roberson shouldn’t go to jail at all, since losing his job and his family was punishment enough. The defense argued that Roberson’s ill health should qualify him for probation, while prosecutors said the Corrections Department provides medical care, and that people with health problems are sentenced for their crimes every day.
