Civil Rights Attorney Wins Leflore Special Election

LEFLORE COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Greenwood civil rights attorney Solomon Osborne was elected state representative for Mississippi House District 32 on Tuesday. osborne defeated FEMA contractor Troy D. Brown Sr. for the right to serve out the remaining term of Willie J. Perkins Sr. who resigned after being elected chancery court judge earlier this year. Osborne will serve for the rest of 2019. Osborne received 842 votes to Brown’s 223 votes in a light turnout. Both Osborne and Brown are likely to face off again in the general election in November if Osborne survives a primary challenge from Tavarris Cross on August 6th.
