City Commissioners declined to vote on a plan

Chicot Memorial

City Commissioners in Clarksdale have declined to vote on a plan submitted by Mayor Bill Luckett that would have certified assistant fire chiefs and captains as sanitary officers who are authorized to issue citations for high grass, weeds and debris. The mayor characterized his plan as an efficient use of municipal assets since the city currently has only one sanitary officer and an epidemic of blighted properties. City commissioners questioned the use of fire department personnel for that effort, and the motion died without being seconded.
