Choice Of Valley President For Jackson State Sparks Lawsuit

JACKSON, Miss (Ben Caxton) — College Board trustees have officially announced Mississippi Valley State President William Bynum as the next President of Jackson State. And the choice is already controversial. Protesters Wednesday questioned his choice by trustees because he wasn’t among three initial finalists. Another group has filed a lawsuit to block the appointment saying College Board members haven’t met obligations in a racial discrimination settlement, even though Bynum, is black. For his part, Bynum says he can help Jackson State which has deep financial difficulties. Bynum has been the President of Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena since 2014.
