Chicot County Man Arrested In Death Of Toddler

CHICOT COUNTY, AR (Ben Caxton) — A Chicot County man is in jail on charges of Suspicion of Capital Murder. Chicot County Sheriff Ronald Nichols was notified on Halloween night of a severely injured 3-year-old child that had been brought to the emergency room of Chicot County Medical Center. The child, Journee Orji Evans, was later airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock where she died the next day. Jasmine Evans of Lake Village, who along with her mother had taken the infant to the hospital, reportedly told police that her boyfriend, Jeffery Tucker had spanked Journee on October 31. Tucker, who had left the residence in Evans’ vehicle, was arrested by Sheriff Nichols and his deputies in Eudora shortly after 11:00 PM. At a hearing Thursday, Circuit Judge Sam Pope found probable cause to hold Tucker without bond on suspicion of capital murder. He is currently being held at the Jefferson County jail.
