Charges Dropped Against Leland Mom

LELAND, MS (Ben Caxton) — A judge has dismissed all charges against the Leland mother whose children drowned when their parked SUV rolled into Deer Creek last week. 25-year-old Jenea Monique Payne had been arrested by Leland Police after the accident and charged with two counts of negligent manslaughter and one count of child neglect when her children, 4-year-old Steve Smith, and 1-year-old Rasheed Johnson Jr. drowned. In an unusual move, Leland Police had not consulted Washington County District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson before arresting and charging Payne.
