Candidates Certified for Fall Elections

CLEVELAND, MS (Ben Caxton) — State election commissioners have certified the candidates who will run for two empty seats in the Mississippi House. Nonpartisan special elections will take place November 6th with runoffs three weeks later. The winners will serve until January 2020. Eight candidates are running in District 85 which includes Claiborne, Franklin, Jefferson, and Warren counties. Democrat Representative America Chuck Middleton of Port Gibson stepped down last month after nearly 23 years in office. The other race is in District 31 in Bolivar, Humphreys, Sunflower and Washington counties where four candidates are running. Democrat Representative Sarah Richardson Thomas of Indianola retired in June after 21 years of service.
