Bryant To Decide On Jackson Schools Take Over Next Month

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Governor Phil Bryant says he’s going to wait another month before deciding whether to approve a state takeover of the Jackson school district. The state Department of Education will release final school ratings for the 2015-2016 year on October 19th but preliminary data shows Jackson will be rated F for a second straight year. Last week the state Board of Education asked Bryant to declare a state of emergency in the 27,000-student district, citing violations including concerns about ineffective teaching, student safety, and students graduating without necessary credits.
