BREAKING: One Shot in Thursday Evening Greenville Assault

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Thursday night Greenville shooting has left one man in the hospital and another in jail charged with aggravated assault. Police were called to Import Auto at 2339 Highway 82 East at 6:25 PM Thursday night. When they arrived they found 56-year-old Henry Bates shot in the back. The suspected shooter, 45-year-old John Scates was also still at the scene. After a preliminary investigation, Scates was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. Greenville Police say Bates and Scates apparently were having a dispute over payment of a vehicle. Bates went to the location to collect money from Scates, they got into an argument, and Bates was shot in the back. Bates was transported to DRMC where at last check he was in stable condition. Scates does not have a bond at this time and is being housed in the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility.
