UPDATE: 17-Year-Old Arrested in Greenville Homicide

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — A man Greenville man  is dead in what police are calling a homicide. Police were called to 819 Fairview Avenue in Greenville around 10:01 AM Tuesday and found a black male, later identified as 45-year-old Darrell Lee Lafayette, lying in the bedroom of the home, in bed.  Lafayette had an injury to the head area. The Washington County Coroner was dispatched and declared the subject deceased.  An autopsy is being performed to confirm the exact cause of death.   GPD tells Delta Daily News that  the motive is unknown at this time, nothing appears to be missing from the residence, and there was no sign of forced entry into the home.  Authorities say they are currently following up all leads on this incident, and do not have any suspects at this time. UPDATE 4:55PM Berdell Willis III has been charged with 1 count of Murder in the incident that occurred at 819 Fairview.  Investigators of the Greenville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division obtained enough information during the investigation and after conducting interviews to warrant the charge.  Willis is 17 years of age but based on the charge, he will be charged as an adult. The preliminary investigation reveals that this this may have stemmed from previous problems between the Willis and Lafayette.   Willis is the step son of Lafayette. No bond has been set at this time and Willis will be housed at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility pending a bond hearing.  This is a developing story.
