Black Caucus Members Boycotting Conference

BILOXI, MS (Ben Caxton) — 38 members of the Mississippi legislature’s Black Caucus will not be representing their constituents at a weekend conference because of a spat over a dinner march. The politicians say they are boycotting the Southern Legislative Conference because they do not support the state flag of Mississippi. They had demanded that the flag not be used during this conference. But according to State Rep. Chris Bell, they’re concerns were not met in time, so they will not be going. Not all black caucus members are boycotting the event, which is causing division in a group that is usually united. State Rep. Credell Calhoun from Hinds County said he is going. he is one of 13 black lawmakers who are attending. Calhoun said he doesn’t support the flag, and won’t march behind it, but he is working with other members who are on his side to change the state flag and wants to be there to represent his constituents to get that done.

  1. We voted on this Mississippi State Flag years ago so that’s it. So stop all of this controversy over the flag
