Big trouble for a veteran Greenville police sergeant

Chicot Memorial

The FBI has arrested Greenville Police Sergeant Burney Alfred Peacock on bribery charges. He is accused of accepting payments from a local nightclub owner in exchange for warning the business when state liquor law enforcers were in town. The federal indictment alleges that Danny Bew of the Southern Whispers nightclub began making the payments to Peacock in 2010 for protection from alcoholic beverage control agents. Peacock, who is currently suspended from the Greenville Police Department, is free on 10-thousand dollars bond and faces trial next month. He has been with the Department for more than 20 years.
