Below average rainfall this summer has had an impact on crops, the aquifer and wildlife in Bolivar County

Chicot Memorial

From June through August there was just over 5- inches of rainfall in the area according to the National Weather Service. So far only 1.24- inches of rainfall has fallen in September. The area had an extremely wet winter and spring with an average rainfall of nearly 55- inches. The dry conditions have allowed farmers to keep harvesting at a steady pace but also contributed to an awful lot of dust. Because July and August were dry and warm the demand for irrigation from the aquifer to water the crops has affected local well levels.
