Baseball great George “Boomer” Scott dies at 69

Former Major League Baseball great and Greenville native George “Boomer” Scott has died. He played with the Red Sox, Brewers, Royals and Yankees in the 60’s and 70’s. He fended off racism and went on to become a three-time All Star in the American League in 1966, 1975 and 1977 and an eight-time Gold Glove Award winner for defensive excellence. He nicknamed his glove “Black Beauty.” George “Boomer” Scott was 69.
