Chicot Memorial

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi Democrats have chosen state Representative David Baria to challenge incumbent Republican Senator Roger Wicker in November. Baria had 58% of the votes and Howard Sherman had 41% in yesterday’s runoff. Baria carried Washington, Leflore, and Coahoma Counties by a two-to-one margin while Sherman eked out narrow victories in Bolivar, Sunflower, Sharkey, and Yazoo Counties. Wicker has held the Senate seat since 2007 and won the GOP primary three weeks ago. The Reform Party’s Shawn O’Hara of Hattiesburg and Libertarian Danny Bedwell of Columbus also are running in this fall’s general election.
