Attempted Murder Charges in Greenwood Shootout

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Greenwood man who tried to shoot his ex-girlfriend when he found her in bed with another man has been charged with attempted murder. The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department says that 24-year-old Jacolby Whitehead went to the woman’s house last January 3rd a little after 9:00 PM. Inside he found the woman, in bed, with the other man. He attempted to shoot his girlfriend and missed, hitting her lover instead. The man pulled his own weapon and fired on Whitehead. Both men were taken to the hospital, with Whitehead requiring treatment in Jackson. In addition to attempted murder, Whitehead has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
