Arksansas Rushes To Execute Gang Of Eight

Chicot Memorial

LITTLE ROCK, MS (Ben Caxton) — Now that the Supreme Court has removed the last legal hurdles, Arkansas is moving quickly to carry out death sentences against eight convicts. Governor Asa Hutchinson signed an order scheduling the executions for a single ten-day period from April 17 and April 27. Two inmates will be killed by lethal injection on each of four dates. In a press conference, the governor seemed to regret the close scheduling saying “I would love to have those extended over a period of multiple months and years, but that’s not the circumstances that I find myself in.” The timing was forced by doubts about the future availability of one of three drugs the state uses in its lethal injection procedure, with the drug’s expiration date would passing in April. The governor added, however, ” … the families of the victims that have endured this for so many years deserve a conclusion to it.”
