Arkansas Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In To Police

HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (Ben Caxton) — The man Helena-West Helena Police say fired shots at an officer Monday night turned himself in Wednesday afternoon. Robert Beckwood is being held on a $50,000 fine after avoiding police for almost 48 hours. An officer was sent to an address on North Fourth Street where a man started firing at the officer. The policeman called for backup. The suspect drove away in a Dodge Magnum and a chase ensued. Gunfire was exchanged before the suspect wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. Original reports were that the suspect had kidnapped a woman in the incident. Police found the woman in Beckwood’s car and she was hospitalized. Beckwood faces possible charges of aggravated assault, a terroristic act, careless and prohibited driving, fleeing and leaving the scene of an accident.
