Area Counties Unwrapping Presents from Special Session

CLEVELAND, MS (Ben Caxton) — Area counties are unwrapping gifts of money from state legislators after a special session at the end of August. Overall the legislature earmarked $111 million for projects across the state. Bolivar County will receive $1 million for upgrades to MS Highway 8 from Bishop Road to U.S. Highway 61 and another $1 million for a dock on the Mississippi River near Terrene Landing. Coahoma County’s share is expected to be about 545,000. Sunflower County received $300,000 for repairs on Parks Road. In Leflore County, Itta Bena will benefit from $250,000 for street resurfacing, and Greenville received $1 million for an extension of Colorado Street to VFW Road. Governor Phil Bryant said the first order of business will be fixing 460 bridges in the state that are closed.
