Another Fatal U.S. 49 Wreck Claims Greenwood Woman

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — A former elementary school teacher in Greenwood has died from injuries she suffered in the second head-on crash of the day, Monday, on U.S. 49 near Greenwood. 76-year-old Clarence Mae Sutton was headed southbound near the Dollar General store when her car crossed over into the northbound lanes striking an SUV driven by a 29-year-old woman from Terry. Sutton was pronounced dead at the scene by Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders. The accident occurred around 5:45 PM. Earlier in the same day 71-year-old Donna Jeane Norris of Greenwood lost her life in a two-car collision near Sidon. Also killed in that crash was the driver of the other vehicle now identified as 58-year-old Ricky Gaines of Jackson.
