LORMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — An internet fueled fight last week has resulted in the arrest of twenty Alcorn State Students, most of whom are on the university football team. The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department says all were charged with simple assault and malicious mischief. All have a court date set for next Friday in Port Gibson. Sheriff Frank Davis told media that more warrants may yet be served in the case. The brawl broke out Monday, April 10, in the cafeteria after some players made comments about others on social media. Campus security forced the fighting students out of the cafeteria, but the fighting continued outside in the parking lot even as police arrived on scene. Alcorn State released a statement saying they were aware of the incident and that appropriate disciplinary actions would be implemented in accordance with Alcorns Student Code of Conduct. No word on whether the student-athletes involved will be allowed to participate in Alcorn State’s spring game scheduled for Saturday.
