Airport Bill Passes

(Jackson, MS) — The House passed a Senate bill Thursday, voting 74-46, to create a regional commission to oversee the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. Before the vote, there were five hours of debating with African-American lawmakers who compared the takeover to the Jim Crow era. Speaker Philip Gunn was said to have reneged on his promises to kill the bill that created the regional commission to oversee the airport.
