AG seeks school funding lawsuit dismissal

Attorney General Jim Hood has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit against the state education department on a number of legal grounds. The lawsuit alleges that the legislature has not funded local school districts at the level that is required under the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. It seeks both a guarantee of future funding and millions in back funding. Local districts in the suit include Greenville, Leland, West Bolivar and others. Hood says under Mississippi law, the state cannot be sued over legislative action or inaction.
