A teacher raise plan has moved to the Senate

Education lobbyists are pushing for a Senate passage of a bill that would offer the first across the board teacher raises in Mississippi since 2007. The House has already passed the bill, which would give teachers a 15-hundred dollar raise this July to be followed by 1000 dollars a year later. Supporters say the raises are badly needed to keep teachers from fleeing to other professions. Mississippi consistently ranks near the bottom for average teacher salaries.
