2017 Expected To Be Active Hurricane Year

MISSISSIPPI (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi entered its annual hurricane season Thursday with forecasters predicting an above-average season. The 2016 season was the most active since 2012, with 15 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean, including seven hurricanes and four major hurricanes. This year they’re predicting 11 to 17 named storms. Between five and nine of those are expected to become hurricanes, with four becoming “major” hurricanes. That means four are predicted to become a Category 3 or higher, with winds of at least 111 miles per hour. Tropical Storm “Arlene” already arrived in April. Next on the list is “Bret”.
