2 Dead, 46 Injured in Bus Crash Caused by Wintry Weather

DESOTO COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Two people died and 46 were injured after a tour bus overturned yesterday in Desoto County. The bus was traveling from Huntsville, Alabama when it overturned at I-268 and US 78. About 20 minutes prior to the crash, the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department had issued an advisory saying to avoid the bridge if possible because it was icy and hazardous. The wreck was just one of many crashes reported in north Mississippi as snow fell across the state. Ice was reported on roads and bridges Louisiana and Alabama, with freeze warnings extending to the Gulf Coast as wind chill temperatures in New Orleans fell to the upper 20s. Flash flood watches were in effect for Georgia and the Carolinas, and an estimated 188,000 gallons of storm runoff and sewage spilled out of a manhole in Forsyth County Monday because of heavy rains.
