$1M Grant To Help Improve Clarksdale Wastewater System

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Tuesday’s meeting of the Clarksdale Public Utilities Board was largely routine as commissioners received a presentation from Jimmy Wilson of Fiser Insurance detailing the utility’s insurance package and told them that CPU is receiving an adjustment of about $27,000 from Travelers Insurance on premiums paid in 2013, which will largely offset an increase in business premiums this year. The board also approved a bid from First National Bank for depository services for the next three years. About 150 new electric meters have been installed, and another 1000 should be installed next week as the utility converts to automated metering infrastructure. And, as part of a $1 million grant to improve the city’s wastewater treatment system, CPU will upgrade the Sasse Street lift station by summer.
